Overview

K8 Math Sense is a team of experienced math educators and curriculum experts dedicated to helping students develop deeper mathematical understanding. Led by Angie Seltzer, a veteran in educational content creation, the company offers innovative learning tools, including math games, assessments, and goal-oriented checklists, designed to make math learning engaging and effective for students of all levels.

Their website serves as the central hub for these resources, providing educators, parents, and students with access to high-quality, structured materials that support both learning and teaching. The platform needed to ensure that all content was easily discoverable, well-organized, and optimized for search engines to reach its intended audience effectively.

To support K8 Math Sense in achieving these goals, WebDesk Solution conducted a technical SEO project aimed at improving the site’s structure, accessibility, and overall digital presence, laying the foundation for better visibility and performance in search results.

Our Approach

To help K8 Math Sense strengthen their website’s performance and online presence, we followed a structured, client-focused methodology:

  • Comprehensive Audit:
We conducted a thorough review of the website to evaluate its structure, usability, and technical setup, identifying areas that could limit visibility or affect user experience.
  • Prioritization of Needs:
All identified issues were assessed and ranked based on their potential impact, allowing us to focus on the changes that would deliver the greatest benefits first.
  • Strategic Roadmapping:
We developed a clear plan for addressing critical issues in a logical sequence, ensuring improvements were made efficiently while keeping the site fully functional.
  • Ongoing Monitoring:
Progress was tracked throughout the project to validate the effectiveness of implemented strategies and to make adjustments as needed for optimal results.
  • Transparent Collaboration:
We maintained continuous communication with the client, sharing insights, progress updates, and actionable recommendations to ensure alignment at every stage.

Technical SEO Issues Identified

At the start of our project, K8 Math Sense faced several technical SEO hurdles that were affecting crawlability, content structure, and overall site performance. These issues needed careful attention to improve search engine visibility and ensure a smooth user experience.

Crawlability and Indexing Directives Issues

Several inconsistencies were identified in how metadata was structured across key pages.

  • Robots.txt Not Configured:
The site initially lacked a proper robots.txt file, limiting control over how search engines crawled the website and potentially exposing non-essential pages to indexing.
  • Canonicalisation Gaps:
Some URLs were not properly canonicalised, risking duplicate content issues that could dilute search engine ranking signals.
  • Noindex/Nofollow Misconfigurations:
Certain pages had incorrect noindex or nofollow directives, which prevented critical content from being indexed and reduced the site’s discoverability.

Heading Structure Challenges

Crawl management and indexing directives required correction.

  • H1 Tags Non-Sequential:
H1 headings across multiple pages were misaligned in the content hierarchy, which can confuse search engines about page relevance and hinder content comprehension.
  • H1 Tags Exceeding 70 Characters:
Some H1 headings were too long, making them less clear for users and reducing keyword focus for SEO purposes.
  • Missing H2 Tags:
Several pages lacked H2 headings, resulting in inconsistent content structure and poor readability, which can affect both user engagement and search engine understanding.

Image Optimization Challenges

Image elements were not fully optimized for accessibility and search visibility.

  • Missing Alt Attributes/Text:
Many images lacked descriptive alt attributes and text, negatively impacting accessibility and preventing search engines from properly indexing visual content.
  • Missing Image Size Attributes:
A large number of images were missing width and height attributes, causing layout shifts during page load and affecting overall Core Web Vitals performance.

Inefficient Internal Linking Structure

Crawl management and indexing directives required correction.

  • Internal Outlinks Without Anchor Text:
Several internal links lacked descriptive anchor text, limiting their SEO value and making navigation less intuitive for users.
  • Pages Without Internal Links:
Some pages had no internal links pointing to them, reducing crawl efficiency and weakening the flow of link equity throughout the site.
  • Excessive External Outlinks:
Certain pages had a high number of external links, which could dilute SEO authority and reduce the effectiveness of internal linking.

Metadata and Page Titles Challenges

URL structure and navigation elements showed technical inconsistencies.

  • Meta Descriptions Issues:
Many pages had missing, duplicate, overly short, or excessively long meta descriptions, which impacted search result snippets, click-through rates, and keyword relevance.
  • Page Titles Issues:
Several page titles were missing, duplicated, too short, or too long, reducing visibility in search engine results and creating inconsistencies with best SEO practices.

Pagination and URL Structure Challenges

  • Non-Indexable Pagination:
Paginated pages were not properly indexed, limiting content discoverability and affecting overall site structure.
  • URL Issues:
Some URLs contained non-ASCII characters, underscores, or uppercase letters, creating potential crawl and indexing problems while reducing URL readability for users.

Security and Technical Protocol Challenges

Internal structure and link integrity needed assessment.

  • Mixed Content:
Certain pages loaded both HTTP and HTTPS resources, creating security warnings and potentially affecting search engine rankings.
  • Unsafe Cross-Origin Links:
Numerous pages contained insecure cross-origin links, posing security risks and reducing user trust while impacting SEO compliance with modern web standards.

Technical SEO Solutions Implemented

We addressed K8 Math Sense’s technical SEO issues step by step, making the website easier to crawl, more structured, and more visible to search engines.

Crawlability and Indexing Directives Optimized

We systematically corrected and standardized meta elements across the website.

  • Robots.txt Implemented:
We created a proper robots.txt file to control how search engines crawled the website. This ensured that important pages were indexed while non-essential pages remained hidden, improving overall crawl efficiency and maintaining the site’s SEO health.
  • Canonical Tags Applied:
Canonical tags were added to prevent duplicate content issues, helping search engines recognize the preferred versions of pages. This consolidation of SEO signals made indexing more accurate and strengthened the site’s ranking potential.
  • Noindex and Nofollow Corrected:
Misconfigured noindex and nofollow directives were fixed, allowing key pages to be properly indexed. This restored the visibility of important content in search results and ensured that link equity flowed efficiently throughout the site.

Heading Structure Optimized

Content hierarchy was restructured to improve clarity and topical focus.

  • H1 Structure Corrected:
Non-sequential H1 tags across the site were corrected to create a logical content hierarchy. This improved both readability for visitors and understanding for search engines, helping them better assess the relevance of page content.
  • H1 Length Adjusted:
Overly long H1 tags were shortened and refined to make them clearer and easier to read. This not only enhanced user comprehension but also allowed keywords to be emphasized correctly for SEO.
  • H2 Tags Added:
Missing H2 headings were inserted to create a consistent and organized content structure. This improvement helped users navigate content more easily and allowed search engines to understand the topical relevance of each section.

Internal Linking Structure Enhanced

  • Internal Links Fixed:
Internal links missing descriptive text were updated to improve clarity, making navigation easier for users and helping search engines understand the relationships between pages.
  • Missing Links Added:
Pages that were previously isolated were linked internally to integrate them into the site structure. This ensured better link equity distribution and improved crawlability.
  • External Links Optimized:
Pages with excessive external links were adjusted to maintain the flow of link equity, ensuring that internal pages retained SEO value and that site authority was preserved.

Metadata and Page Titles Optimized

  • Meta Descriptions Updated:
Meta descriptions were added, corrected, or refined to be unique, descriptive, and aligned with SEO best practices. This made search result snippets more compelling, improving visibility and click-through potential.
  • Page Titles Refined:
Page titles were optimized to be clear, concise, and relevant, improving search engine comprehension and providing a better user experience in search results.
